The A+ Student VOICES Team (SVT) is a group of passionate high school students dedicated to making a positive impact in their school communities. These student advocates work on various projects to address student needs and improve the education system for themselves and their peers. One member, Annie, has taken action to ensure that all students have access to helpful resources, regardless of their circumstances.Â
Annie recognized that most students didn’t know about or have access to the opportunities available to them in their communities and beyond. She had an idea: to gather all the resources she had discovered and list them in one accessible location online. This would make it easier for students to browse and find programs that best matched their interests.
She brought her idea to life by creating a website called Alabama Student Opportunities, which provides students with information on opportunities ranging from local volunteer work to global student programs. Annie has already shared the site with students in her network and encouraged them to spread the word. She has also made sure that students outside her network are included by sending the resource to schools beyond her county.
Her project is receiving positive feedback. Many students who have discovered the website say they would have otherwise never known about these opportunities. Teachers are also finding it useful as a resource to share with students, helping ensure that every student has a chance to succeed. This is a powerful example of student advocacy and the immediate impact it can have.
