The A+ Student VOICES Team (SVT) is a group of passionate high school students dedicated to making a positive impact in their school communities. These student advocates work on various projects to address student needs and help improve the education system for themselves and their peers. One member, Josephine, has taken a significant step to ensure that important information about issues in education is accessible to students, parents, and the community.
Josephine noticed that her peers were missing school due to a lack of motivation and reliable transportation. To address this, she launched a campaign across social media platforms. Her goal was to help education stakeholders better understand the challenges facing their local schools. Josephine believes that information should be accessible to everyone, so she conducted research on chronic absenteeism and simplified the findings to provide context for her social media videos.
She took a two-pronged approach to her content strategy. To connect with people in her school community, she interviewed local leaders, administrators, and educators—offering familiar, relatable voices to help stakeholders better understand the issues.
Her second strategy was to create edited, short-form videos featuring clips, captions, images, and voiceovers. These engaging, fast-paced videos were designed to reach a broader audience.
Josephine’s videos have reached thousands of people from diverse backgrounds. She hopes that by continuing to share this content, she will inspire others to start conversations about chronic absenteeism and take steps to address its negative impact on student learning.
