Across Alabama, student advocates from the A+ Student VOICES Team (SVT) are stepping up to address important issues affecting students across the state. Among them is Geethika Pochana, a dedicated advocate from LAMP High School, who developed an initiative focused on reducing student stress, burnout, and test anxiety in a highly competitive academic environment. Geethika’s work centers on helping students feel more supported, motivated, and confident throughout the school year.
Recognizing the growing pressure many students face in rigorous academic settings, Geethika created a project designed to provide both academic resources and emotional support for her peers. Understanding that academic success and student well-being go hand in hand, she sought to create accessible tools that would help students manage stress while continuing to thrive in the classroom.
To make support more readily available, Geethika plans to launch a school-specific social media campaign featuring weekly motivational content, study strategies, and tips for managing stress and test anxiety. Through positive messaging and practical advice, the campaign aims to encourage students and remind them that they are not alone in their academic experiences.
In addition to the social media initiative, Geethika will create a Google Classroom containing notes, study guides, and academic resources gathered from both students and teachers across a variety of courses. By combining peer contributions with educator support, the platform will serve as a collaborative space where students can access valuable materials while building a stronger sense of community.
Understanding the importance of student voice, Geethika also plans to interview her peers to learn more about the strategies they use to reduce stress and stay motivated. Working closely with teachers, counselors, and fellow students, she aims to ensure that the resources shared are both meaningful and practical. Her project emphasizes listening to students directly and creating opportunities for students from all grade levels to contribute.
Through weekly outreach, student feedback, and accessible academic resources, Geethika hopes to foster a more encouraging school environment where students feel empowered rather than overwhelmed. She envisions her initiative leading to reduced stress levels, increased motivation, and a healthier balance between academic achievement and personal well-being.
Geethika’s advocacy highlights the importance of supporting students not only academically, but emotionally as well. Her project serves as a powerful example of youth leadership and demonstrates how students can create meaningful change by building spaces where their peers feel supported, connected, and empowered to succeed.
