Senior Mentoring: Tyler's Advocacy Project

Across Alabama, student advocates from the A+ Student VOICES Team (SVT) are stepping up to address some of the most pressing issues in education. Among them is Tyler Adams, a passionate advocate from Wetumpka High School, who launched a semesterly mentoring program designed to help students better navigate the college application process through peer support and personal guidance.

Recognizing that many students rely on generic application advice that may not reflect their unique experiences and backgrounds, Tyler developed a comprehensive project centered on providing more personalized and meaningful support. With a thoughtful, student-centered approach, his initiative addresses the limitations of one-size-fits-all advice by connecting underclassmen with seniors who have recently completed the college application process.

Working closely with members of the senior class, Tyler created opportunities for upperclassmen to share firsthand experiences, practical tips, and valuable insights with juniors and other underclassmen preparing for college. Through these mentoring sessions, students receive concrete advice on topics such as selecting colleges, writing application essays, navigating deadlines, and managing the overall application process.

By fostering peer-to-peer mentorship, Tyler's program not only provides students with helpful information, but also helps reduce the stress and uncertainty that often accompany the college application journey. His initiative encourages students to ask questions, learn from those who have recently gone through the process, and feel more confident as they prepare for their future.
